An electric boiler (electric boiler) is a device that uses the heat generated when an electric current flows through water or an electric resistance heating element immersed in water to produce hot water (coolant). An electric boiler is often used as a backup source for heat supply from devices that operate from renewable energy sources, for example, heat pumps, the power of which is not always sufficient to heat rooms during periods of extreme cold, or boilers running on solid fuel in case of interruptions in the supply of raw materials.

To calculate the electrical heating power, you need to multiply the area of the room S (in m2) by the power P (kW) necessary to compensate for heat loss from each square meter of the room (with a ceiling height of up to 3 meters).
P is taken depending on the type of room:

  • old building P = 0.1 kW
  • old building insulated P = 0.07 kW
  • new building with good insulation P = 0.05 kW

S we take only the living area, and if the room is on the first or last floor (or it is a detached building) then we take the total area.
Thus
Electric boiler power = S x P
This calculation is indicative. For a more accurate calculation, it is necessary to take into account the presence of supply ventilation, window area, quality of double-glazed windows, quantity and quality of external doors and other factors affecting the heat loss of the room.
